Do I need a reservation? What if I just want to walk in?
Reservations are highly recommended to guarantee a lane for your group.  However, similar to a bowling alley, we are always taking walk-ins as long as there is a throwing lane available. Wait times will vary depending on the day and time so make sure to check our online schedule to see if reservations are available. You can also keep an eye on Twitter @Dueling_Axes where we’ll let you know when open lanes are available for walk-ins.

What if I need to cancel?
We know things come up and life happens. We ask that you give us a 48 hours notice for cancellations and after that we’re always happy to help you reschedule to another day or time as long as an open reservation is available.

When are you open?
We’re open Wednesday through Sunday for 1-2 hour reservations and walk-ins (Wednesday & Thursday 5pm – 10pm, Friday 5pm – Midnight, Saturday 2pm – Midnight, Sunday Noon – 8pm).  A wider time range for group events can be found in our scheduling calendar.  Don’t see a time that fits what you want? Give us a call and we’ll be happy to try and fit your group in – we’re confident that we can make just about any time or day work with at least 48 hours notice. How do I make a Reservation?

How far in advance do I need a reservation?
Dueling Axes is first come first serve so if there is a day and time you really want, we recommend scheduling several weeks in advanced. Weekends are pretty busy and we fill up fast, so keep that in mind when planning your night out. You can occasionally find an open slot on the same day but we recommend booking a reservation at least a couple days in advance or more if you have a large group.

Is there a wait list?
Cancellations are uncommon so if the time you’re looking for isn’t available on the website then you’ll most likely have to pick another.  Feel free to drop in or give us a call and try to get lucky but we can’t make any promises.  Pay attention to Twitter as well, @Dueling_Axes, where we’ll post when walk in spots are available.

What if we’re late for our reservation?
We run a tight ship and there will probably be a group waiting for your lane when your time is up. Try not to be late or your time in the lane could get cut short.  We ask that all guests arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their reservation for a quick safety talk and coaching session.

Can I bring more people than we reserved ahead of time?
Additional group members can pay on site but we generally recommend no more than 6 people per lane. With than 6 on a lane, you may not get to throw as much as you like. That being said, the more the merrier!

Can I rent the whole place?
Absolutely! We would love to host your group outing, team-building event, or fundraiser.  Visit the Groups page for more information and call us for available reservation times, package pricing, and any special requests your group may have.

Is it safe? Has anyone ever been hurt?
Fair question. We pride ourselves on our safety practices and safety is our number one priority. Each throwing lane is completely enclosed in floor to ceiling fencing and only one axe is allowed per lane.  Before your reservation, our staff will go over all of the safety procedures during a brief training session to make sure everyone is on the same page.  No sport is completely free from risk but axe throwing in our venue is closely monitored to keep everyone safe, even from yourself! We’re proud to say we’ve never had an injury.

Will someone train us?
Yes! Every group goes through a short training and safety session in which you’ll learn how to throw an axe and do it safely. Training usually takes 10-15 minutes or less and your reservation time starts after everyone is ready to rock and throw.

Is it hard?
Throwing an axe and getting it to stick in the target can take some practice to really get the hang of it. However, the process is pretty straightforward and our friendly staff will be there to give you pointers and make sure you have the best possible chance for bragging rights. The vast majority of our guests stick the target on their first visit and many pick it up pretty quick.

Is there an age limit?
We don’t have a specific age limit but we recommend that younger throwers be at least 14 years old to make sure they have what it takes to stick an axe to the target. Any throwers under the age of 18 will be required to have a parent or guardian with them who is legally able to sign their liability release.

Our lounge is also BYOB friendly which means you must be 21 or older to drink on our premises. We have and WILL ask for your ID, so if you’re not 21 then you won’t be drinking here, no exceptions.

What should I wear?
We require all throwers to wear closed toed shoes and we highly discourage high heels. We’re not the fashion police but do want to keep your toes safe from any falling objects and make sure our female guests don’t twist any ankles while throwing.  Aside from that, wear whatever you’re comfortable in.

Can I bring my own axe?
We do not allow any outside axes or knives to be thrown in our facility. We provide all the equipment you’ll need to participate. (Except for closed toed shoes which are required)

What if I’m Pregnant?
We only hold a PHD in axe throwing so we suggest asking your doctor if this would be appropriate. Common sense is a good rule of thumb here.

Minimum group size?
In order to secure a private lane you will need to make a reservation for at least 4 people. With a group of 3 or less, we reserve the option to pair you up with another small group (kind of like a golf tee time), but we’ll only do this if we must and wont make combined groups any larger than 6 throwers. Our goal is for you to have your own private throwing lane whenever possible. Don’t be nervous if there are only a couple of you, you’re going to have a great time making new friends!

Maximum Group Size?
As long as lanes are available there is no maximum group size for your party. We recommend no more than 6 people per lane so that everyone gets a fair chance to really get the hang of throwing an axe. If you book a reservation for more than 6 people, our staff will make sure to setup your group on adjoining throwing lanes.

What are the rules?
You’ll learn all of the safety and scoring rules during the brief training session before you throw. You can check out the official National Axe Throwing Federation scoring and tournament rules here for those who just can’t wait!

Can we take pictures?

Is Dueling Axes wheelchair accessible?
Absolutely, we want to bring the sport of axe throwing to everyone who has the itch. Give us a heads up and we’ll have your throwing lane prepped for accessibility when you arrive

Can we bring our own drinks, beer or otherwise?
Absolutely! As long as you are of legal drinking age, you can bring your own beer or wine (sorry, no liquor). We don’t allow glassware so you’ll have to drink it the old fashioned way (straight from the wine bottle). Safety is our single most important priority so if we decide that you’re too intoxicated to throw safely, you will not be allowed to throw, no exceptions.

What about food?
What could be better than pizza and throwing axes? We’re not sure either! Your group is welcome to bring any food you can think of. Just make sure to bring plenty of napkins to clean and dry your hands before it’s your turn to throw. There are also several eateries right around the corner from us or you can make arrangements in advance and cater in.

Plates, utensils and napkins?
Unfortunately no, if you thought of bringing food then we’re betting you thought of how to dish it out. We will have trashcans and recycling bins for when you’re done.

Fridge available?

We don’t have a fridge for you to keep drinks in but you can purchase your very own Dueling Axes koozie from the front desk. Keep those beers cold before you arrive and we’ve got you covered after that! Feel free to bring a small cooler as well.

Outside catering?
Go big or go home. Cater a full meal for your private event or have a pizza delivered for your small group. Just remember, timing is everything. Make sure your food gets here before it’s too late.

Food and drink available for purchase?
We do not serve food or drinks but there are a wide variety of restaurants and pubs right down the street. We’re committed to being good neighbors so make sure to finish your night out with some of the best food and drink Downtown Columbus has to offer right around the corner.

Is there a prize?
League Champions will be awarded with their very own engraved axe trophy. Perfect for display in your trophy case or on the family room mantle.

How much does it cost?
$22 per league night x 8 nights = $176 prepaid plus tax

How often?
1 night per week for 8 consecutive weeks for about an hour each night

What if I miss a night?
We know life happens, if you miss a night then you will need to attend a makeup session on one of the pre-scheduled days. If you can’t make it for one of the makeup nights then your score for the day you missed will be marked as zero.
